The Telegram-based crypto game sensation, Hamster Kombat, has reached a remarkable milestone, announcing that its player base has surpassed 150 million users. This astonishing growth places it ahead of the population of Russia and represents a 50% increase from just last week, when the game celebrated reaching 100 million users. Such figures mean that nearly one in five Telegram users have signed up for the game, which offers real crypto rewards as players work to build a hamster’s virtual crypto exchange.
Hamster Kombat rewards players through a token airdrop scheduled for July. Players who accumulate points within the game will be eligible for this airdrop, adding to the game’s allure. The game operates as a mini-app within Telegram, requiring no additional downloads, which has undoubtedly contributed to its widespread adoption. The announcements channel for Hamster Kombat on Telegram has become the most popular channel on the app, boasting over 35 million subscribers.
The game’s popularity has transcended Telegram, garnering significant interest across other platforms. Hamster Kombat’s YouTube channel has an impressive 23 million subscribers, while its Twitter account has 7.7 million followers. Both accounts have seen substantial growth in their following over the past week, reflecting the game’s viral appeal.
Hamster Kombat’s success can be largely attributed to its spiritual predecessor, Notcoin, another Telegram game backed by cryptocurrency. Notcoin gained a loyal following through a token airdrop to players, which generated significant excitement. The airdrop occurred on May 16, and since then, the token, NOT, has seen remarkable growth, achieving a market capitalization of over $2 billion last week. According to CoinGecko, NOT is now among the top 60 cryptocurrencies by market cap.
Along with Notcoin’s success, Toncoin, the native token of Telegram’s preferred blockchain, The Open Network (TON), has also benefited from the popularity of Hamster Kombat. Toncoin reached an all-time high price of $8.13 on Friday, marking a 26% increase over the last two weeks. The thriving accomplishments of Notcoin and Hamster Kombat have attracted the attention of other aspiring games. Two new Telegram-based games, Tapswap and Yescoin, have announced their plans to launch on TON, with similar token airdrop ambitions.
Moreover, Telegram’s TON blockchain has been consistently outperforming Ethereum in terms of daily active addresses throughout the month. Delphi Digital, a prominent firm, noted that TON’s daily active addresses have surpassed Ethereum, attributing this achievement to Telegram’s colossal user base of 900 million. This phenomenon, referred to as “the flippening CT ignores” by Delphi Digital, underscores the impact of Telegram’s vast distribution network. However, questions remain about whether this growth can be sustained long-term to permanently surpass Ethereum.
Last week, Telegram introduced a new digital payment feature called “Telegram Stars,” allowing users to make in-app purchases compatible with both iOS and Android devices. This move comes amid a surge in Telegram’s mini apps, with millions of users joining every day. Earlier this month, Hamster Kombat announced that it had gained millions of subscribers and had become the No. 1 channel on Telegram in terms of users.
Recently, Pixelverse, a Web3 Telegram-based gaming ecosystem, raised $5.5 million in a capital raise, demonstrating the growing interest and investment in Telegram-based gaming and blockchain ecosystems. The funding round saw participation from top investors in the crypto and Web3 gaming spaces, including Delphi Ventures, Merit Circle, and Mechanism Capital.
