Adidas launches Web3 artists, Mutant Ape NFT sells for 500 ETH with more developments in the NFT space

In a dynamic week of NFT-related news and exciting developments in the virtual space, Adidas has stepped into the spotlight with the launch of its Web3-based digital artist residency program, known as the Triple Stripes Studio. This program aims to shine a spotlight on emerging talents within the nonfungible token (NFT) space and provide a platform for them to connect with Adidas’ passionate community of collectors and enthusiasts.

The program, unveiled on August 31st, is set to officially kick off on September 4th, with a series of online and in-person events scheduled until September 11th. Its core objective is to foster collaboration with up-and-coming artists, opening up new creative pathways for them. Adra Kandil, known as Dearnostalgia, and Moto (Monkeemoto), are the first two resident artists to be announced. Their distinctive styles encompass a range of artistic mediums, from photography and typography to digital montages, fashion, landscapes, and gaming.

To mark the launch of this program, two open edition and two limited edition NFT art sales by Dearnostalgia and Moto are scheduled for September 6th. The open-edition NFTs will be priced at 0.03 ETH (approximately $49), while the limited editions will go for 0.15 ETH (about $245).

The Triple Stripes Studio operates under Adidas’ Web3 unit, ALTS by Adidas, established in January to bolster the sportswear giant’s Web3 initiatives.

In the gaming realm, Yuga Labs, the creators of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, announced their plans to roll out the open beta for a new game within the Otherside metaverse, Legends of the Mara (LoTM). While Otherside is a 3D virtual world, LoTM is described as a collection-based 2D strategy game, offering players opportunities to leverage their virtual land plots for rewards and new NFTs. The game will evolve further in the coming months as it progresses full launch. Meanwhile, the NFT space witnessed a remarkable sale as a Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFT, specifically MAYC NFT #30002 with the Mega Zombie trait, sold for an astonishing 500 ETH (equivalent to $817,000) on September 1st, acquired by Taiwanese music celebrity Jeffrey Huang, also known as MachiBigBrother.

Shifting gears to the world of NFT trading volumes, CryptoSlam data reveals a staggering 570% surge in trading volume for Dapper Labs’ NFL All Day project over the past seven days. This remarkable increase stands as the most significant trading volume spike among the top 20 highest-selling NFT projects during the week, amounting to nearly $976,000 worth of NFL All Day NFTs changing hands. Although the exact reason behind this surge is difficult to pinpoint, the impending start of the NFL season on September 7th and the introduction of “dynamic” NFTs that evolve to showcase player highlights of the new season likely contributed to the heightened interest.

Lastly, in an unexpected move, Lufthansa, one of Europe’s largest airline groups, has launched an NFT loyalty program on the Polygon Network. This program allows passengers to transform their travel experiences into NFTs, unlocking rewards such as miles and business lounge vouchers.

TinyTap, an educational technology subsidiary of Web3 developer Animoca Brands, has introduced new artificial intelligence-powered NFT tools tailored for educators and parents, further demonstrating the expanding utility of NFTs beyond traditional art and collectibles.
