Gaming giant Ubisoft is set to venture into the world of Ethereum non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with a free mint event for its upcoming game, Champions Tactics. Ubisoft recently announced “The Warlords PFP Collection” on Twitter, inviting gamers to participate in the first Ubisoft free mint on Ethereum.
To join the event, Ubisoft encouraged gamers to follow, like, retweet, and comment on the announcement post with “ChampionsTactics.” In a bid to make the event more exclusive, Ubisoft stated that 50 followers who respond to the parent post with the specified hashtag would be randomly selected for the allowlist and receive invitations to join the private Discord channel.
Champions Tactics, described as a Web3 PvP tactical RPG set in the dark world of Grimoria, is slated for a PC launch early next year. Ubisoft plans to offer a free Champions drop at the game’s launch.
The heart of the NFT event is the Warlord, a unique digital collectible serving as a profile picture (PFP) for players. Each Warlord also provides its owner with early access to the mint of in-game playable figurines known as Champions. The Warlords come with 170 distinct traits, including armor, weapons, headgear, and more, with some traits being rarer than others. Ubisoft has limited the Warlord mint to 9,999, reserving 999 for future giveaways, partnerships, and rewards in a Market Vault. Another 1,000 will be allocated to its partner, the Oasys blockchain, for its community, leaving 8,000 available for the public during the mint.
Participants need a Ubisoft account and a compatible wallet (such as Metamask or Face Wallet) with sufficient ETH to cover gas fees to claim a Warlord. While claiming a Warlord is free, gas fees apply.
The minting process will occur in two phases: a private mint lasting 8 hours and accessible to selected users, and a 24-hour public mint open to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis. During the Private Mint, users can mint 2-4 Warlords based on their user tier, with specific allocations for Champions, OG Champions, and Grim Guard. Public mint participants can claim up to two Warlords.
However, residents of certain countries are restricted from playing the game due to regulatory considerations. These countries include Algeria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Burundi, China, Cuba, France, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Nepal, North Korea, Myanmar, Qatar, Russia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Crimea and Sevastopol, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
